Dooley’s Week

“Presidents may come, presidents may go; professors may come, professors may go; students may come, students may go; but Dooley goes on forever!”

Well it’s that time of year again: spring break is over, daylights savings time is in full swing, and spring is right around the corner.  And you know what that means…Dooley’s Week is upon us! Earlier this week, the Student Programming Council (SPC) officially announced the headliner for Saturday April 9, 2016 as The Chainsmokers.

So, who is Dooley?

To put it simply, Dooley is a skeleton.  But there is so much more to Dooley than just bones.  Dooley preserves the official “Spirit of Emory” and has become an unofficial mascot of the university.  Every year, he makes his appearance on campus during Dooley’s Week as students celebrate Emory with a week of fun, energetic, and rich tradition.  And most importantly, it’s the one time of the year when Dooley makes his way around to campus to dismiss a few lucky classes.

And, what is Dooley’s Week?

Dooley’s Week is one of Emory’s biggest traditions that has a Homecoming-feel to it with a week’s worth of fun activities for students.  Some of the activities in the past have included “Taste of Emory” where local restaurants set up booths at McDonough Field for samplings of their fine cuisine, Screen on the Green where students bring their blankets to McDonough Field to watch a movie under the night sky, Wonderful Wednesday, a comedian show, a live concert by a big-named artist Friday evening, and ending the week with Dooley’s Ball featuring a well-known DJ.  In the past previous artists have included J.Cole, Kendrick Lamar, OneRepublic, 3LAU, Alesso, and so many more!

And then best part?

All of this is free for Emory students! Dooley’s Week has always been my favourite time of the year – because who wouldn’t want to have a week filled with free food, amazing live music, nights filled with laughter?  And so I wait. I wait in anticipation for next week: to see who our headliners will be, which comedian will be gracing our presence, which artist and DJ will take over my Friday and Saturday night.

All I can say is that I hope to see you all there!
